Winter Skincare - how to navigate the nightmare!

Dry. Dull. Flaky. Grey. Pallid. Dehydrated. Tight. Itchy... yes, these are all horror words in the skincare world! Unfortunately, they are all things that most of us encounter during the winter months. Winter skincare required a switch up in your usual routine. We've put our heads together, and had a think on how to help skin survive. Here's our top tips for winter skincare survival.

 

You Are What You Eat

A balanced diet is essential for skin health. Processed sugar, alcohol and the wrong kind of fats will dehydrate you and lead to break outs, dry skin and a poor complexion. There's a handful of super foods that will help to feed dry winter skin...

Avocados: The blend of healthy fats, proteins, and vitamins make it a powerhouse for your body inside and out. The protein helps support collagen structure and the elastin in your skin. The fat also helps moisturise. Good news - because we're lovers of guacamole, avocado toast, and good-fat packed salads.

Sweet Potatoes: Abundant in vitamin A, they can help give your skin a healthy glow, and protect from damage. Vitamin A can help with skin renewal and decrease dry, flaky skin. Great for winter skin survival.

Green Tea: Not only is green tea loaded with skin-nourishing antioxidants, it has anti-inflammatory properties that can heal damaged skin and prevent blemishes. It may help increase blood flow to the skin since it’s rich in antioxidants.

Moisturise!

DRINK!

Step away from the red wine. As much as we love a drop of red, it won't help your skin. It can lead to broken capillaries, dry patches and unsightly, irritated patches of skin. So, put the booze away. Ditch the caffeine. Instead, start looking at more 'hydrating' drinks! Water, Green Tea, White Tea (packed with antioxidants and a little easier to work through than green tea), peppermint tea. Another great skin soother is a turmeric latte; packed with anti oxidants and skin soothing, anti-inflammatory properties. It's great for winter skincare. Here's how:

 

Winter Skincare Loving Turmeric Latte

  • fresh turmeric 3cm piece, peeled (or 3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder)
  • fresh ginger 2cm piece, peeled (or ¼ - ½ teaspoon ground ginger)
  • black pepper pinch of
  • honey 1 heaped teaspoon
  • almond, cashew nut or hazelnut butter 1 heaped tablespoon
  • water 1 ½ cups (or milk, for a creamier drink)
  • ground cinnamon ½ - ¾ teaspoon
  • vanilla essence or extract 1 teaspoon
  • salt good pinch of

 

 

Simply blitz all the ingredients in a bullet and warm over a low heat. Serious winter skincare survival and seriously delicious!

Turmeric Scrub

 

 

EXFOLIATE!

Get rid of itchy, flaky winter skin with some bloody good body scrubs.
